What is a Temazcal?
A Temazcal is an ancient Mesoamerican sweat lodge used for purification, healing, and spiritual renewal. Rooted in traditions of the Mexica, Maya, and other Indigenous peoples of Central America, it is a domed, womb-like structure where heated volcanic stones are infused with medicinal steam, guided by sacred chants and prayers. The Temazcal is deeply connected to birth, renewal, and transformation, using heat, herbs, and intention to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit.The Inipi, the Lakota equivalent, shares the same core purpose but differs in structure, ritual, and symbolic elements.
